Special guest speaker is Mallory White. She will be presenting on the Botetourt Farmer's Market: Where it's been, where it is and where it is going.

Dr. White is a Native of Botetourt County, and a three-time graduate of Virginia Tech. In 2015, she graduated with a double major in Biological Sciences and Animal & Poultry Sciences followed by an M.S. in 2018 and her Ph.D. in 2021. Dr. White’s degrees focused on alternatives to antibiotics in poultry and the exploration of the effects of probiotics and phytogenic feed additives on bird health during disease challenges that poultry commonly face in the industry. During her time at Virginia Tech, she helped manage a research lab for numerous years, and led or co-led over a dozen research projects. She has coauthored scientific papers about broiler health, the microbiome, and poultry diseases.
During the last year of working toward her Ph.D., she started to work as an adjunct at VWCC in the Fall 2020, teaching Intro to Animal Science & BIO. Turning to full time in the Fall 2021, she currently teaches Intro to Animal Science & Technology, General Biology, and Human Anatomy & Physiology. Dr. White’s goals are to provide students with opportunities in the agricultural field through hands-on experience and connections with the community. In working closely with our Agriculture Extension agents and taking students to local farms to introduce them to local animal husbandry practices. Dr. White currently serves on the Board of Directors as President of the Botetourt Farmers Market and likes spending Saturdays in the summer volunteering her time there. Dr. White is also a member of the Roanoke Valley Astronomical Society and International Dark Sky Association, and enjoys learning about space, stars, and advocating for darker skies on the East Coast.
